Background Info

The task of this project was to create a fully interactive 3D application that provides a virtual tour of the number of buildings and landscapes, which is integrated with a widespread facility management system. We created this application for one of the top 3D visualization companies in Singapore.

Business Challenges

Intuitive Interface
The application was oriented at a great variety of end-users including low-qualified staff such as janitors, hall porters, and caretakers, so the interface of the product had to be easy and intuitive, so none of the users would need additional training to use it.

Realistic Experience
We had to develop a highly realistic visualization of the facilities based on their BIM documentation, where the user can see the smallest elements of exterior and interior so that the virtual experience of the building would as close as possible to the real presence.

Portability
The client needed us to develop a solution architecture that would provide for easy cross-platform portability, including the ability of further development of mobile and VR applications based on the initial app for Windows PC.

Approach and Solution

Program-Ace developed a fully usable application for Windows PC, including modeling, UI, testing, and the development of all the features described in the specification. The application has been developed in C++ using Unreal Engine with a cross-platform portability.

The application allows several interactive view modes. Each of them of them has a navigation menu and an information window that overlays the picture on the top of the screen. Also, each mode is rotatable and has a zoom in/out feature.

  • Full building 45˚ building view
  • This mode provides a general overview of the building with camera movement.
  • Floor section view
  • The mode provides a section view of the selected floor level. The user can see the interior, as well as all the infrastructure, including the pipeline, wireline, etc.
  • Semi-transparent view
  • It only highlights the selected infrastructure system or object category which gives a better understanding of various systems such as pipeline, wiring, or fire safety.
  • 3D tour view
  • First-person 3D camera view of the building that shows in detail all the interior and infrastructure, including power boxes and sockets, doors, windows, etc.


The app has such features as an ability to choose viewpoints and camera paths, measure distances, the time-of-day feature, a floor plan and compass navigation. The user has access to the information about an asset, object, or infrastructure system, including basic info, location, repair history, etc.

Technology Stack

This application has been developed by one Unreal developer and four artists. It took six months to develop the full-featured application for the Windows platform.

Program-Ace developed an immersive experience for the construction and real estate industry, which appeared to be a great tool for many purposes.
  1. The highly detailed, interactive visualization of the building infrastructure model has been delivered;
  2. This application helped train many building infrastructure modes and increased the productivity of their work;
  3. The software we delivered was used in safety training and helped increase the quality of health and safety education;
  4. We developed the app just before the presentation of the building project to the investors, and this virtual tour was a great marketing material to power the presentation with.
