Xmas ARchy: AR Portal
Background Info
It was just one month before the Christmas day and we had already known that we wanted to make something beautiful to say thank you to all our customers, partners, and friends, and wish them happy holidays. We started working on the project called Xmas ARchy which is just a modification of our corporate ARchy the Rabbit project, an augmented reality application.
With Xmas Archy, the idea was to design an augmented reality portal application that could take a user on an exciting interactive journey. Having built our own corporate AR portal, we are able to improve the customer services and communication that we value.
Our artists worked on creating magic-like experience which you can feel as you enter the AR portal. The application is filled with a lot of visual effects and animations which all give a festive mood and atmosphere to a user. The secret of the AR portal is not only that you can enter the portal and see the whole virtual world around you, you can also walk around and explore the AR environment.

Approach and Solution
Since our team has certified Unity developers and a great experience building application with Unity, this powerful game development engine was an obvious choice for us. The challenge was to place a static portal which a user can walk into and see a celebration and congratulation scene with an animated explorable environment.
Another challenge was to avoid any markers to render the portal. It was achieved thanks to ARKit & ARCore technology which allowed us to stick to a markerless AR approach. With a set of tailor-made animations, graphics, objects and backgrounds, Xmas ARchy came to life.
We build this AR portal app not only to greet our clients, partners, friends and other people but also to show that AR portals can be used for a variety of purposes. For example, AR portals can be handy when showcasing room designs, cars, houses or other objects and properties from home. This technology can become a virtual showcasing assistant or can even be used for medical purposes such as treating claustrophobia, acrophobia, etc.
